All About Bilinguals has regularly been providing presentations at the University level geared towards the new practitioners entering the field for developing a deeper awareness of the process occurring in the typical bilingual language development versus the characteristic presented in bilingual language disorders.
Even with the extensive research about this topic that has been published in recent years, there still remains a significant gap on the knowledge of bilingualism and the standard practice in the profession. Many SLPs find that they still feel unprepared when working within this area questioning their confidence to perform evaluations, make accurate differential diagnosis from language disorder vs language development and being able to appropriately identify cultural differences.
All About Bilinguals has been taking a leadership role to help lead a new generation of speech/language pathologist, teachers, special educators, school psychologist, socials workers, guidance counselors, school nurses and pediatricians in the area of bilingualism.
Our presentations can be tailored to specific audiences and may be focused on, but not limited to:
- Typical bilingual language development and awareness of the different influencers in multilingual development.
- Typical phonological development in bilinguals (0-5 years) and phonological bilingual disorders.
- Cultural differences that may influence over social-linguistic skills; Interpretation of social skill evaluation results.
- Analysis of the language evaluation results beyond the scores.
- Identifying language difference versus language disorder.
Having participated in presentations at the National, State and local levels we are sure you will enjoy and find the information useful. We are now scheduling Professional Development seminars at the school district level for the coming year and although we do offer an intimate setting for small groups at our office we commonly will present at your conference center, auditorium or campus facility.
